Grandma and Grandsons

After completing my last drawing of the 2 adorable brothers for my friend, I was asked to do another by her mom; the grandmother of the boys! This photo they took at the hospital I am just in love with! (Except for it being blurry so I did have to ask for more reference photos.) Anyway, it reminds me of a moment captured by artist Norman Rockwell. The expression on their faces of the pure joy of welcoming a new baby to the family is just priceless! I have to say the baby was easy to draw on this one…no face showing, just a swaddled bundle of joy. So I did not even charge for a 3rd person. The plaid shirt was time consuming yet made for an interesting portrait. Grandma loved it and she even bought 2 of the same frames so I can do another portrait in the future. Hopefully that will be coming up soon!

Brotherly Love

This double portrait was commissioned by a very good local friend of mine, Sara. She had her 2nd baby in August and at just a few days she old snapped this adorable photo of her older son kissing his new baby brother. It turned into a beautiful drawing to preserve the special moment.

I have to say that I love my collage app called Photo Grid for a new interesting way to show my reference photo and progress of the drawing.

This drawing was done in August for a friend of mine who lives in my area (which qualifies for a 10% discount!) This friend I met because our husbands work together, we both have young children who get together at library storytime and we both have labradors! I had to combine 3 photos to create this portrait the way she wanted it since the original photo she liked was blurry. It was nice when I was done that her and her husband came over to my house to see the portrait in person before taking it home. They loved it! Here are the 3 photos I had to use and the portrait I created for them.

Border Collie (Rosie)

I am finally updating my blog and posting my last few drawings. This one is from May. I was contacted by a relative of my husband who lives in New York to draw this portrait of a border collie for her friend. I love being able to draw a dog tag to personalize the drawing with the dog’s name. I can do this even if it is not visible in the photo I draw from. If you are interested in a custom portrait email me at border collie

Precious the Peregrine Falcon

A few months ago I was contacted by a friend from high school who volunteers at Sacred Friends Wildlife Rehabilitation in Norfolk, Virginia. She asked if I could draw some of their animals so they could sell my art prints to raise funds to take care of their animals. After the holidays I had some free time so I got started with this drawing. The prints are in the process of being made and you can pre-order them on Etsy. Please help support this cause! Jenn is another army wife who I met in Hawaii who asked me to draw her dog as a Christmas present for her husband. I always knew Jen loved her dog just like a child so I was thrilled she finally asked me to draw him! The photo a perfect pose of Maverick lying on a bed. I added the bone tag with his name just as she requested. I worked on this drawing in November, shipped it off and finally it was revealed on Christmas. Her husband was surprised and he loved it. She took a photo of his reaction to share with me.
